Initiated in 2004 with seed money from the Pasco County Board of
County
Commissioners and a
Community Education Grant from the Southwest Florida Water Management District,
members of Scenic Pasco teamed with Pascowildlife Inc. and the Nature Coast
Native Plant Society to introduce the first Adopt-A-Pond effort in
Pasco
County.
The flagship project located south of SR 54 on
US 41, Land O
Lakes was transformed from a barren, lifeless pond into a flourishing
ecosystem. People of all ages,
came from all over Pasco
County to
participate. Overall, volunteers
planted 1900 native plants. Now
known as Denim Pond, volunteers continue to monitor its
progress.
In January of
2006 Adopt-A-Pond Pasco Inc. a Florida non-profit
corporation was organized to coordinate program activities and act as an
official conduit for the Adopt-A-Pond Pasco Program.
We are pleased to have the opportunity to bring
the Adopt-A-Pond Program to the citizens of
Pasco
County.
